ESCLM Weekly Update: Vol.27, August 3, 2010

Dear ESCLM Members;

Thanks to increasing demand, we are offering our one day "Understanding Common Assessment Process (CAP) and Community Employment Resources" training workshop on August 19, 2010.

This course has been designed specifically for our community agencies' Employment Resource Centre (ERC) staff and other employment support staff (intake, reception/front desk, facilitators, etc.).

This one day workshop provides the knowledge and skills to enable ERC and Support Staff to navigate diverse client need and referral, often under demanding circumstances, and while multi-tasking (such as in front desk or resource centre settings).

The course provides:
• An overview of the Common Assessment Process (CAP) as it is used by the career development practitioners/employment counsellors in this community to design client return-to-work Action Plans
• An introduction to client Employability Dimensions and the Job Loss Cycle for critical understanding of client circumstances
• Relationship- and rapport-building skills instruction and practice
• An overview of the diversity of community employment resources/services to which clients can be referred
• Excellent networking with other staff in similar roles at other agencies
• All of these are facilitated by our expert trainers within the context of real scenarios that you, your staff, and clients face every day.

We provide training so that staff can:
• Do the best job during difficult times
• Make the most appropriate client referrals
• Be reassured that these staff roles are critical in our community's service delivery system, and staff are equipped to meet these demands

Don't be disappointed. Register now.

This session will be held Thursday, August 19, 9am to 4pm, downtown London location still to be determined. Questions? carol@esclm.ca

Need Volunteers???

Does your agency have a special project that needs the attention of a group of dedicated volunteers? Is there important work to be done, and limited time and energy with which to do it?

September 25, 2010 marks the 4th Annual Western Serves; a program that links teams of Western students, staff, and faculty with partnering agencies for an afternoon of community service. Last year's program saw over 300 volunteers work with 35 organizations and was enthusiastically received by all.

One community partner said "Western Serves created a wall mural for our classroom. The students now have a room that will give them inspiration and excitement about the program!"

One participant said the program gave students "an opportunity to give back to the community we live in and show them we care," while another said "it helped me gain a sense of the different organizations in London and I will definitely volunteer in the future."

If you are interested in having a team of 5 or more volunteers work with your agency on Saturday, September 25 (1:00pm - 4:00 pm), please fill out the attached Community Partner Registration Form and return it to western.serves@uwo.ca or email us if you would like some more information! We look forward to partnering with you for this great annual event!
