Dear ESCLM Members;

Providing accurate information and making appropriate referrals to our clients about our community's employment and training services and supports has never been more important. Gain the knowledge and skills to navigate diverse client need and referral, often under demanding circumstances, and while multi-tasking (such as in front desk or employment resource centre settings) through our one day "Understanding Common Assessment Process (CAP) and Community Employment Resources" training workshop on Thursday, September 23, 2010. This course has been designed specifically for our community agencies' Employment Resource Centre (ERC) staff and other employment support staff (intake, reception/front desk, facilitators, etc.).

From Drab to Fab!

"Become London's Most Polished Professional
Contest and Cocktail Event" In Support of Clothing Works.

 "Drab to Fab" Contest and Cocktail Event is the opportunity for which you have been waiting to polish your professional presence. There are over $8,000 in clothing and services to be won (including a Hugo Boss suit from David E. White, a $1,000 gift certificate from Saffron Road, two $500 gift certificates from Kingsmills, hair and make-up from Nova Vita, a lunch and learn session and one-on-one personal image coaching from Polished Image). Four lucky winners (two men and two women) will become London's Most Polished Professionals.

Entering is easy - simply visit www.polishedimage.ca, download an entry form, attach a photo and email your submission to: contest@polishedimage.ca. Or visit one of our retail sponsors.

Deadline for submissions is September 24th. Polished Image will select 12 finalists and post their profiles on our site. Londoners will vote on who deserves to become London's Most Polished Professional.

Winners of the contest will be announced at a cocktail event on October 14th at the Morrissey House in downtown London. Proceeds from the event will be donated to Clothing Works, a non-profit organization that provides interview attire to those in need. Learn more...

 

Connecting Literacy and Employent through Essential Skills

Project Update: The Office of Literacy and Essential Skills (OLES) has funded Literacy Link South Central to conduct a two-year project (June 2009 to May 2011). The primary goal of this project is to develop seven workbooks that embed Essential Skill activities within employment-readiness tasks. With these workbooks, literacy
programs and employment programs can provide clients with employability skills and literacy/ Essential Skills simultaneously.

Hispanic Scholarship Awards

General College Scholarships are designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a college degree. Scholarships are available on a competitive basis to:
• Graduating High School Seniors
• Community College Students
• Community College Transfer Students
• Undergraduate Students
• Graduate Students

Award amounts will generally range from $ 500 to $1,000
