Literacy Clicks Photo Contest

On September 8th 2010 (International Literacy Day) our 2nd annual Literacy Clicks photo contest will begin and we want to hear from you. Take a photo and submit it with a brief statement on how literacy impacts your life under one of our 2 categories:

1) Literacy connecting you: How has literacy brought you closer together to those around you?
2) Literacy working for you: How has literacy helped you in your daily life?

Contestants must submit their photos by December 31st 2010 to be eligible. On January 27th 2011 (Family Literacy Day) we will announce our contest winners for each category from our gallery of finalists. Prizes of $300, $200 and $100 will be awarded to the top 3 photos from each category.

Literacy is the first step in breaking down walls and connecting with those around us. From a thank you note, to music, to a good night phone call, literacy brings us closer together one step at a time. There are hundreds of ways that literacy allows us to communicate and accomplish vital tasks. Show us how literacy clicks for you. Contest is open to all residents of Middlesex, Oxford and Elgin counties.

Please share our poster...

The second seminar will be at 1:00pm and will be offered by the CARE Centre for Internationally Trained Nurses together with Fanshawe College's Bridge to Nursing Credentials program.

If you are an internationally trained Nurse or you know of one who may benefit from these seminars please review the registration details in the attached flyers.

Partnership Project Update

It's been a busy summer for The Partnership Project. Since May, my co-chair, Dr. Eric Hoskins, Minister of Citizenship and Immigration, and I have been meeting with senior leaders from not-for-profit organizations across Ontario.

We have met with not-for-profit organizations in Toronto, Thunder Bay, Niagara Region, Sudbury, Mississauga, Minden and London. We will be in Newmarket and Ottawa later this month.

We have learned a lot about this sector -- its strengths, its challenges, and its central role in building and sustaining communities. We have also heard many thoughtful ideas about how to enhance the relationship between the public sector and the not-for-profit sector.

We want to engage as many people from the not-for-profit sector as possible in this important conversation. So for those of you who will not be able to participate in one of our in-person roundtables, we invite you to join our conversation online. You can do that by:
- signing up to receive highlights of our regional consultations and other updates of our work
- hosting your own roundtable within your organization or community - DIY Roundtable
- sending us your private thoughts on a confidential basis though our tete-a-tete feature, or- uploading a submission or research paper.

Thank you for caring about and supporting the not-for-profit sector -- whether you're a volunteer, a paid service provider, or a donor. Your support matters, and our communities are stronger because of your involvement.

If you have any questions about The Partnership Project, please don't hesitate to email me: HBurstyn@trilliumfoundation.org or contact Karen Rosen, Special Advisor, The Partnership Project at krosen@trilliumfoundation.org .

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and ideas. ‪
